Experience the wonder of the Indianapolis Zoo’s Christmas at the Zoo, a magical holiday event featuring twinkling lights and holiday decor, a variety of fun activities at Santa’s Village, and festive animal displays.
But that’s not all—there’s a ton of fun stuff to do beyond just seeing the animals and lights:
- Hang out with Santa in Santa’s Study from 5:00 pm until closing time
- Decorate cookies with Mrs. Claus
- Check out Santa’s Sleigh and his reindeer
- Enjoy some yummy holiday-themed cocktails
- Have fun navigating through the Mirror Maze
Make sure to mark your calendar for the event, which kicks off on November 23, 2024, and runs until December 30, 2025, open from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and staying open until 10:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Keep in mind that the event will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day, so plan your visit accordingly.

2. Winterlights at Newfields in Indianapolis
Discover the enchanting Winterlights at Newfields in Indianapolis, a captivating outdoor light experience set in the beautiful gardens at Newfields.
The synchronized light display is a sight to see and this year, for 2024, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will provide the holiday soundtrack.
While strolling through the illuminated gardens, warm up with a cup of hot cocoa or apple cider and enjoy the holiday treats available at the event – gingerbread popcorn and warm chocolate chip cookies!
It will start on November 23, 2024 and go through January 5, 2025. It goes from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

3. Circle of Lights Tree Lighting Ceremony at Monument Circle
Attend the Circle of Lights Tree Lighting Ceremony at Monument Circle in Indianapolis, with music and the lighting of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.
The tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for the day after Thanksgiving on November 29, 2024, and the tree itself will remain illuminated until early to mid January.
The lighting ceremony itself will take place at 6:50 pm, but the festivities begin around 6:00 pm at Monument Circle.
4. Festival of Trees at the Indiana Historical Society
Attend the Festival of Trees at the Indiana Historical Society where you get to admire dozens of elaborately decorated trees.
While you are there, participate in the fun scavenger hunts, such as the Elf on the Shelf or the search for the ten hidden pickle ornaments among the trees.

Mark your calendars for the 2024 Festival of Trees, running from November 15, 2024 to January 4, 2025. Plan your visit on Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
There are extended hours on December 3rd, 5th, 10th, 12th, 17th, and 19th from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Please note that the event will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, December 6th, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly.
To secure your spot, it is highly recommended to purchase tickets in advance online, although they can also be obtained at the door.
5. Christmas City Walkway of Lights in Marion, Indiana
Explore the Christmas City Walkway of Lights in Marion, a stunning display featuring over 2 million lights and 120 displays spanning an impressive distance of over 2 miles.
Following your exploration of the Walkway of Lights, make sure to stop by the Gift Shoppe, where you can treat yourself to warm cocoa and cookies, all while browsing a variety of locally crafted goods.
You can explore the Christmas City Walkway of Lights from the comfort of your own vehicle or you can choose to walk along the Mississinewa Riverwalk.

6. Koteewi Run Seasonal Slopes
Take a visit to Strawtown Koteewi Park, where Koteewi Run is located, and sled down 700-foot lanes on snow tubes!
Keep an eye on their website for updates on the tentative opening date for 2024, currently scheduled for December 14th, allowing you to stay informed about any potential changes and their hours of operation.

7. The Santa Claus Christmas Parade in Santa Claus, Indiana
The Santa Claus Christmas Parade will occur on December 14, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
Alongside the Christmas Parade, the town offers an array of other delightful holiday activities to enjoy, including:
- View the Festival of Lights from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm by driving through nine miles of light displays in Christmas Lake Village (only on December 14th & 21st)
- Attend the Santa Claus Arts & Crafts Show from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on December 14th which features a large selection of arts and crafts from local vendors
- Have Breakfast with Santa from 7:00 am to 10:00 am on December 14th

Their opening ceremony starts on the Saturday after Thanksgiving from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Take advantage of the offer for free admission from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursdays or Fridays throughout the first three weeks of December.
On the last Saturday before Christmas (December 21st), you can enjoy a special evening low-lighting self-guided tour from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm that perfectly accentuates the holiday decor.
Admission for adults is $10, while K-12 students can enter for $5, and children under the age of 5 are free.

Starting November 23rd through December 24th, shop for unique gifts and crafts at the Carmel Christkindlmarkt, an outdoor holiday market inspired by traditional German Christmas markets.
As you wander through the market’s stalls, enjoy German food & beverages from over 20 vendors, browse unique gift selections, and enjoy live holiday music.
Get ready to hit the ice and have fun skating at the ice rink! It is recommended to purchase ice skating tickets in advance online.
While planning your visit, keep in mind that the Carmel Christkindlmarkt is closed on Mondays and Tuesday.

This train ride follows the Polar Express movie to a tee with dancing chefs serving up hot chocolate, gifting of the silver bell from Santa, and the punching of your golden ticket.

From November 29th to December 29th, 2024, experience the atmosphere created by the twinkling lights, vibrant poinsettias, and a Christmas village.
There will also be a fun scavenger hunt you can participate in while you are there!
It will take place Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Sundays from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Please note that the conservatory will be closed from December 23rd to 25th for the holidays.

Looking for some snow-filled fun this holiday season? Look no further than Perfect North Slopes in Indiana! This winter wonderland has something for everyone, from skiing and snowboarding to snow tubing.
No matter your age or skill level, the terrain and snow conditions make Perfect North Slopes an ideal destination for outdoor winter activities in Indiana.
While the exact opening day for 2024 is still to be determined, they typically open around mid-December, and keep going until early March.
They open as soon as they have made enough snow to cover most of the trails. Keep in mind that their opening and closing dates are dependent on the weather, so it’s always a good idea to check their website for the latest snow report.

24. Nickel Plate Reindeer Train Ride
