Fun and Festive Christmas Things to Do in Indiana
I’ve lived in Indiana for years, and the holiday season here is one of my favorite times of year. The state really comes alive with lights, shows, and festive events that make it feel extra special.
I love driving around to see the holiday light displays, checking out local Christmas markets, or catching a seasonal show. Whether you’re into traditional holiday celebrations or unique winter experiences, Indiana has plenty to offer.
Here is a list of the best Christmas things to do in Indiana that I think are worth checking out.
Christmas Things to Do in Indiana
1. Indianapolis Zoo’s Christmas at the Zoo
One of my favorite holiday events in Indiana is the Indianapolis Zoo’s Christmas at the Zoo. The zoo transforms with twinkling lights, holiday decorations, and fun festive activities for kids.
There is more than just the lights and animals. Here is a few things to do while you are there:
- Hang out with Santa in Santa’s Study from 5:00 pm until closing
- Decorate cookies with Mrs. Claus
- Check out Santa’s Sleigh and his reindeer
- Sip on holiday-themed cocktails
- Navigate the Mirror Maze
The event starts on November 22, 2025, and runs through January 4, 2026. It’s open from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on most nights, and until 10:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Keep in mind it’s closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
If you are a zoo member, Christmas at the Zoo is free, which is always a nice bonus.
2. Winterlights at Newfields in Indianapolis
Winterlights at Newfields is one of my favorite holiday experiences in Indianapolis. The gardens are transformed into a magical outdoor light display that is really impressive and fun to walk through.
As you walk through the illuminated gardens, you can warm up with a cup of hot cocoa or apple cider and enjoy holiday treats like warm chocolate chip cookies.
The event starts on November 21, 2025, and runs through January 4, 2026. It is open from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Advance tickets are required, and you can get yours in advance by visiting this link.
3. Circle of Lights Tree Lighting Ceremony at Monument Circle
The Circle of Lights Tree Lighting Ceremony at Monument Circle is a classic holiday event in Indianapolis.
The evening features music and the lighting of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, which is always a beautiful sight to see.
The ceremony is scheduled for the day after Thanksgiving on November 28, 2025, and the tree will stay illuminated through early to mid-January. The festivities usually start around 6:00 pm at Monument Circle.
4. Festival of Trees at the Indiana Historical Society
The Festival of Trees at the Indiana Historical Society is a fun way to get into the holiday spirit. You can admire dozens of elaborately decorated trees (over 80!).
This year’s Festival of Trees runs from November 14, 2025, through January 3, 2026. It is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
On December 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, and 18, the event has extended hours until 8:00 pm.
The Festival of Trees is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day, so plan your visit accordingly.
Tickets can be purchased online in advance, which is highly recommended, but they are also available at the door.

5. Koteewi Run Seasonal Slopes
Koteewi Run at Strawtown Koteewi Park is a fun winter activity for the whole family. You can sled down 700-foot lanes on snow tubes, which is always a blast no matter your age.
The tentative opening date for 2025 is December 20th, but it’s a good idea to check their website for updates on any changes and their hours of operation.
It’s a great way to get outside and enjoy some winter fun in Indiana.
6. The Santa Claus Christmas Parade in Santa Claus, Indiana
The Santa Claus Christmas Parade is a classic holiday event, happening on December 13, 2025, at 1:00 pm.
Alongside the parade, the town has plenty of other festive activities to enjoy:
- View the Festival of Lights from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm by driving through nine miles of light displays in Christmas Lake Village (only on December 13 and 20)
- Attend the Santa Claus Arts & Crafts Show from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, featuring a large selection of arts and crafts from local vendors
- Have Breakfast with Santa from 7:00 am to 10:00 am
As you can see, there are plenty of Christmas things to do in Santa Claus, Indiana.
7. The Seiberling Holiday Tours at the Seiberling Mansion
The Seiberling Mansion in Kokomo, Indiana, is a great spot to visit during the holidays. The Seiberling Holiday Tours showcase the mansion beautifully decorated for the season.
The opening ceremony is on the Saturday after Thanksgiving from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. You can also enjoy free admission from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursdays or Fridays during the first three weeks of December.
On the last Saturday before Christmas, December 20th, there is a special low-light self-guided tour from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Tickets are conveniently available online or at the door.
Please note that the venue remains closed on Mondays, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Eve, so plan your visit accordingly.

8. Carmel Christkindlmarkt
The Carmel Christkindlmarkt is an outdoor holiday market in Carmel, Indiana, inspired by traditional German Christmas markets.
It runs from November 22 through December 24 and is a great place to find unique gifts and crafts.
As you walk through the market, you can enjoy German food and drinks from over 20 vendors, browse handmade gifts, and listen to live holiday music.
There is also an ice rink where you can skate, and it’s a good idea to purchase tickets online in advance.
Keep in mind that the market is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays when planning your visit.

9. The WinterFaire at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis
The WinterFaire at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is a holiday favorite for families.
From November 15, 2025, to February 22, 2026, the museum is transformed into a carnival-inspired indoor wonderland filled with games, hands-on activities, and seasonal fun for kids of all ages.
During WinterFaire, children can enjoy festive activities like holiday-themed crafts, interactive games, and special exhibits designed just for the season.
10. Fort Wayne Festival of Trees
The Fort Wayne Festival of Trees is a fun way to get into the holiday spirit. You can admire a wide variety of beautifully decorated trees and even vote for your favorites.
The trees are displayed in the lobbies of the Embassy Theatre and former Indiana Hotel, with festive themes ranging from classic Christmas to creative and unique designs.
The 2025 Festival of Trees runs from November 26 through December 3.
Your admission includes a visit with Santa and live entertainment on stage. There are also special events, like Breakfast with Santa, so be sure to grab your tickets in advance on their website.
11. The Polar Express Train Ride at the Whitewater Valley Railroad
The Polar Express Train Ride at the Whitewater Valley Railroad in Connersville, Indiana, is a must-do holiday experience.
The ride brings the story of the Polar Express to life, complete with dancing chefs serving hot chocolate, Santa giving out the silver bell, and the classic golden ticket punching.
It’s a magical experience for kids and adults alike, and it’s best to purchase tickets online as early as possible since this ride sells out quickly.
12. Franklin, Indiana Holiday Lighting
The Franklin Holiday Lighting is a fun way to celebrate the season in Franklin, Indiana, on December 6, 2025.
The day kicks off with a winter market on North Main Street from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, featuring local arts and crafts. At 5:30 pm, the lighted parade on Jefferson Street is not to be missed.
The evening wraps up with the lighting of the Courthouse at 7:00 pm, which is a beautiful way to end the festivities.

13. Garfield Park Conservatory’s Holiday Train and Poinsettia Display
The Holiday Train and Poinsettia Display at Garfield Park Conservatory in Indianapolis is a festive favorite.
From November 28 to December 28, 2025, you can explore stunning holiday-themed poinsettia displays, model trains, and a charming Christmas village.
There is also a scavenger hunt to make the visit even more fun, especially for kids.
Tickets are only available at the door, and both cash and credit cards are accepted.
14. Ride the Carmel Holiday Trolley
The Carmel Holiday Trolley is a fun way to see the holiday lights in Carmel, Indiana. You can ride through the charming streets while enjoying the festive decorations and the holiday atmosphere.
Along the way, take the opportunity to stop at local boutiques and galleries in the Arts & Design District, Indiana Design Center, and City Center for some holiday shopping.
Best of all, the trolley is free and open to the public. In 2025, it runs from November 22nd through December 20th.
15. Santa Hustle Indy Half Marathon & 5K in Indianapolis
The Santa Hustle Indy Half Marathon & 5K in Indianapolis is a festive race where participants get into the holiday spirit.
The event takes place on December 14, 2025, at White River State Park. The day starts with the Kid’s Dash at 8:30 am, followed by the Half Marathon at 9:00 am, and then the 10K and 5K at 9:05 am.
It’s a fun way to be active and celebrate the season with friends and family.

16. Perfect North Slopes
If you’re looking for snow-filled fun this holiday season, Perfect North Slopes is the place to go.
This winter spot has something for everyone, from skiing and snowboarding to snow tubing, making it a great destination for families.
The terrain and snow conditions work well for all ages and skill levels, so whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skier, you’ll have a good time.
The exact opening date for 2025 hasn’t been announced yet, but they usually open around mid-December and stay open until early March. They start as soon as there is enough snow to cover most of the trails.
Keep in mind that opening and closing dates depend on the weather, so check their website for the latest snow report before you go.
17. A Merry Prairie Holiday at Conner Prairie
Conner Prairie’s A Merry Prairie Holiday is a fun way to celebrate the season.
The event runs from November 28th through December 23rd and is open Friday through Sunday.
Besides walking around Conner Prairie and enjoying the light displays, there are plenty of other fun activities:
- Visit the North Pole Village to meet Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and the elves
- Sled down the 150-foot snowless tubing hill
- Skate at Frosty’s Skating Rink, where you can skate in socks—no ice skates needed!
It’s a great holiday outing for families or anyone who wants to enjoy festive activities in Indiana.
18. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s Yuletide Celebration
The Yuletide Celebration at Hilbert Circle Theatre is a festive holiday performance by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
The show brings ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas to life with tap-dancing Santas, a talented cast of singers and dancers, and plenty of holiday cheer.
The performance runs from December 5th through December 23rd, 2025, and is a fun way to get into the holiday spirit in Indianapolis.
